City & County Recognize Mental Health Awareness Month

Portage County Executive Patty Dreier and City of Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza will honor May as Mental Health Awareness Month on Friday, May 12, by reading Proclamations in the Portage County Annex Building’s first floor conference rooms at 11:30 AM.

The Proclamations will reaffirm the pledge made by City and County departments to work to reduce the stigma often associated with mental illness, and to compassionately offer support, services, and resources to those with mental illness.

After the Proclamations are read, a light lunch will be provided to City and County employees courtesy of Erberts & Gerberts, the Stevens Point Police Officers Organization, and Local 484 Charitable Foundation.

Weather permitting, all City and County employees are also encouraged to join Dreier and Wiza on a 0.8 mile walk through the Stevens Point downtown area while donning their vibrant green Mental Health Awareness Month t-shirts. The walk will begin shortly after 12 PM.

Additional Mental Health Awareness Month t-shirts will be available for sale prior to the event at the Stevens Point Fire Department, during normal business hours, beginning on May 4. T-shirts will also be sold at the event on May 12.

All proceeds from the t-shirts go to support the work of the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Coalition of Portage County.
