Review the Comprehensive Outdoor Park & Recreation Plan Final Draft

The Board of Parks Commissioners will discuss and perhaps vote on adopting the final draft of the Comprehensive Outdoor Park and Recreation Plan at its January meeting. The draft Plan is available online so everyone can review it before the meeting.

The draft document is an update to the City of Stevens Point’s existing Comprehensive Outdoor Park and Recreation Plan. Initially developed in 1971, the Plan has been updated and modified several times, and has seen significant growth and development of the City’s recreational resources.

City of Stevens Point residents and businesses widely hold the City’s Park and Recreation system in high regard. The facilities contribute significantly to the community’s quality of life, and the ability of the City to attract and retain people, businesses, and investments.

The Board of Park Commissioners conducted significant public involvement throughout the creation of the document to ensure they have captured and considered the items that are desired most  by park users. The Plan is intended to be a five-year guide for policy and financing decision making for the City, and as such, identifies capital improvements from 2018-2022.

The Plan includes a description the planning process, a resource inventory and analysis, a recreational resource inventory, standards for parks and for recreation activities, a list of parks and recreation service areas, issues and opportunities, the improvement Program, a project improvement estimate, and a description of parks and recreation funding.
