Stevens Point Police Seek Donations for K-9 Officer

The Stevens Point Police Dept.'s new K-9 Program (except personnel) is paid for through the generosity of individual citizens, groups, and local business owners. We need your donations to help pay for the dog's training, vet bills, food, and equipment.

The Stevens Point Police Department recently added a K-9 Unit to our team, made possible with the Support of the Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission, Stevens Point Common Council and generous donations from our Community.

The Department is currently in the process of selecting our K-9 Officer's first K-9 Partner. Our goal is to send our K-9 Officer and their selected dog to 6 weeks of training, including obedience, agility, tracking, wind scenting, area searches, building searches, evidence recovery, tactical operations, handler protection, and narcotic detection training.

The K-9 Unit will consist of a dual purpose K-9, which is a dog capable of working as a patrol dog and also as a detection dog.

Patrol dogs track suspects or missing persons, conduct building and area (wind) searches for suspects, evidence searches, apprehend resisting suspects, protect their handler protection. The K-9 will also be trained to detect drugs.

Your donation to this program will go directly to this effort and is tax deductible under Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (instrumentality of a governmental unit).
