Curbside Compost Collection Program

Rising Sand Organics will pick up 5 gallon buckets of food waste that households & businesses leave at the curb. They'll swap full buckets for a clean, empty ones. The buckets have screw-top lids that seal in odors & allow for easy handling & cleaning.

Rising Sand Organics, a new cooperative farm located in Custer, is collaborating with Whitefeather Organics and Central Rivers Farmshed to bring curbside compost collection to the Stevens Point area.

UWSP waste management students helped get the program off the ground during their last semester of the 2017-18 school year. The City of Stevens Point has been involved as well, making for a varied and dedicated group of collaborators.

Participants can sign up for every-other-week pick up of compostable waste from their curb for $11.38/month. Pick up every week is $22.75/month.

An annual subscription at reduced cost is also available. With this subscription, participants will receive a 5 gallon bucket with an easy screw-top lid and are welcomed to fill it with all kinds of compostable kitchen waste: fruit and vegetable scraps, old rice, moldy bread, even meat and dairy products.

When your full bucket is picked up, it will be replaced with an empty one for you to continue filling. Material will be composted at Whitefeather Organics and the two farms will use the resulting compost for organic vegetable production.
