Tori Jennings was elected as First District Alderperson in April, 2017. She currently serves on the Board of Public Works and the Historic Preservation/Design Review Commission.
Tori has lived in Stevens Point and the First District since 2010. Originally from Colorado, Tori spent thirteen years in the fire service where she rose through the ranks as a firefighter, paramedic, engineer, and captain at Littleton Fire Department on the outskirts of Denver.
Tori holds a doctorate in anthropology from University of Wisconsin-Madison and taught at UWSP for seven years. Her research and teaching focus involves the social, economic, political, and environmental interactions of people living in rural communities. She has studied and published on a variety of human/environmental issues including water rights, adaptation to climate variability, and the sociocultural and political dimensions of climate and climate change.
Prior to becoming an alder, Tori was active in the Stevens Point community serving as Chair of the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, assisting with successful transportation and community redevelopment applications, organizing community workshops, and working to bridge the community and university through student service learning opportunities.
As First District alder, Tori aims to be a trusted voice for her constituents. She will continue working on transportation and community safety, improving quality of life for all residents, and will be an advocate for development that is fiscally solvent and improves the economic vitality of our diverse neighborhoods.
