Area Residents need to Reassess
Boulevard "Improvements"

The City of Stevens Point asks residents to be mindful of unsuitable changes or "improvements" in the boulevards in front of their property.

Over time, area residents tend to fill in the ditches in their yards with dirt. In areas where curb and gutter are not installed, these ditches are there for drainage purposes. Although filling them in will level out the yard, it will also stop water from draining properly. This water might then pool and cause several problems, including: flooding in neighbors’ yards; standing water for mosquitoes to form; sanitary concerns; and early deterioration of road pavement. Please be considerate and do not fill the drainage ditch with dirt. If you have, please restore the ditch or swale to the original condition.

Some residents also deposit gravel in the boulevards for parking purposes. The Department of Public Works reminds everyone that placement of any type of material on public right-of-way is not permitted. Gravel or stones may be displaced or thrown by plows in the Winter.

Decorative landscaping in boulevards is another concern for snow plows. Large obstructions in boulevards such as rocks, retaining walls, or shrubs may be damaged by plows.

Please look at the boulevard in front of your house and either move or remove materials and/or items that block the right-of-way or could potentially be dangerous. If the materials or items were placed without a
permit from the city, they are not allowed. Any damage to these materials by snow plows will not be repaired or replaced by the city.

If you have made any of these changes to your boulevard without a
permit, please contact the City of Stevens Point Engineering Department at 346-1561.

Thank you!
