The Engineering division,
located in the lower level of the City/County building, develops and reviews construction plans for streets, sidewalks, and sewer and water utilities, surveys
and marks construction areas, designs blueprints/plans, conducts construction inspections, determines special assessments,
calculates construction costs, writes specifications for construction contracts and equipment purchases, and bids
contracts.
The Streets division, located in the city garage at 100 6th Avenue, is responsible
for the maintenance of the city's infrastructure, city vehicle and equipment maintenance, and collection of garbage and recycling.
Other services performed by the Public Works Department include:
- Snow removal from streets, lots, and sidewalks
- Setup/maintenance/takedown of holiday decorations,
banners, and flags
- Special pick-up of bulk refuse items
(items, such as furniture, larger than 3'x3'x3')
- Special pick-up of residential leaves in the fall
- Municipal parking lot maintenance
- Sanitary storm sewer maintenance
- Maintenance of street signs
- Maintenance of painted traffic pavement markings
such as crosswalks, curbs, lane arrows, etc.
- Street cleaning and sweeping
- Airport runway maintenance
