The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. The fuel remediation work at the airport continues to operate in
a "non-emergency" mode. The remediation system is in "winter mode." We will be meeting with
the consultant this week to discuss implementing the next phase.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. Northwest Petroleum is expected to install the card readers as soon
as weather permits.
Planned Airport Improvements. We had the second "working meeting with the parties
interested in the airport improvements and will continue moving forward with the projects. Approximately 20 people
participated in the meeting. The advisory committee met once to discuss the airport security plan and the airport
strategic plan and will meet again within the next couple of weeks to discuss prioritizing the projects.
Airport Management and Operations. Management and operation of the airport continue to run
smoothly.
Airport RFP.
Seven proposals were received for services at the airport. C/T John Schlice is in the process of evaluating the
financial aspects of the proposals. The advisory be discussing the process to be used in making a recommendation
to the Board of Public Works.
2. Engineering
Bid #04-04; West Side Force Main Installation
Project. No change in status from last month.
This project is still on hold, pending additional evaluation of alternatives based on what Stora Enso's plans are
for relocating their effluent line and other alternatives.
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. Construction started this week.
Bid #07-05; Topsoil, Seeding, and Fertilizing
Project. This is the annual contract to
provide placement of topsoil, seeding, and fertilizing of areas disturbed by city construction projects. This year
the major project is the Whitetail Trail Subdivision. Approval is recommended.
3. Streets and Other
Street Department Operations. Street Department operations have switched from winter activities
back to maintenance programs. Crack sealing, patching, shouldering and other seasonal operations have been initiated.
The department is also involved in building removal for the South Business 51 project as well as a building for
the Park Department.
Street Sweepers. The
street sweepers were sent out to be rebuilt by the manufacturer. They are scheduled to be returned by April 8th.
The process took longer than planned due to the extent of work required.
South Business 51 Project. The state project for South Business 51 has a pre-construction meeting
scheduled for Thursday, April 7th. Construction is anticipated to start about April 18th.
