The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. The fuel remediation work at the airport continues to operate in a
"non-emergency" mode. The consultant is finalizing the final remediation plan and developing a guarantee
for the final costs involved.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. Northwest Petroleum is expected to install the card readers within
the next few months.
Planned Airport Improvements. Nothing new to report.
Airport Management and Operations. Management and operation of the airport continue to run
smoothly. Due to the time it is taking to review the proposals, we are requesting that the Limited Term Employees
be retained an additional month.
Airport RFP.
The airport advisory committee is interviewing the individuals/firms who have submitted proposals. A second round
of interviews is anticipated. The committee will submit a report to the Board of Public Works, tentatively in July.
Runway Marking. The
state funds a runway marking program that is fully funded by the state. A resolution is required accepting the
improvements. Approval of the resolution is recommended.
2. Engineering
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. Construction is proceeding nicely. Sewer and Water has been
completed. Norway Pine Drive has been graded, graveled and paved. Black Bear Trail has been graded and graveled
and should be paved this week. Beaver Dam Road and Partridge Way will be graded and graveled over the next three
weeks.
Asbestos Procedures. Working with the DNR on asbestos issues; it was determined that the
city should have an adopted policy on procedures to follow when asbestos is encountered.
Relocation Order.
A relocation order is required to complete the property acquisition for the Highway 10 – Brilowski Road project.
This includes acquisition of property for sidewalk installation and for a new road just east of the U.S. Bank facility.
The state will be installing traffic signals at this new road to provide improved access to the properties in the
area. The median at Amber will be closed to left turns. This project was approved by the Plan Commission on Monday
evening, June 6th.
Agreement with Earth Tech. Proposals were requested for professional services to acquire the
right of way necessary for the Highway 10 – Brilowski Road project. Earth Tech submitted the most advantageous
proposal. Approval is requested for the agreement with Earth Tech for property acquisition in the amount of $28,800.
Bid #11-05 Goerke Park Concrete Stucco Project. This project is to concrete stucco four buildings, the Donald
Copps Municipal Pool bath house, two pump houses and the concession stand.
Bid #13-05 Influent Screen Replacement - Stevens
Point Water Department. Approval is recommended
for replacement of the influent screen by Stabb Construction Corporation in the amount of $299,700.00. Staab submitted
the only qualifying bid, which is within estimate and under budget.
Jurisdictional Transfer. With the construction of the South Business 51 project; the southbound
lanes will no longer follow the “L” along Division and Monroe Streets south of Park Street. This transfer removes
that section for the connecting highway map. Approval is recommended.
