The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. The fuel remediation work at the airport continues to operate in
a "non-emergency" mode. The consultant is finalizing the final remediation plan and developing a guarantee
for the final costs involved.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. Northwest Petroleum is expected to install the card readers within
the next few months.
Planned Airport Improvements. Nothing new to report.
Airport Management and Operations. Management and operation of the airport continue to run
smoothly. Due to the time it is taking to review the proposals, we are requesting that the Limited Term Employees
be retained an additional two months.
Airport RFP. The
mayor's ad hoc airport advisory committee has completed the interviews with the parties that have submitted proposals.
A request for additional information was sent out to those who submitted the proposals most closely meeting the
needs of the airport with the most advantageous pricing. The committee recommendation is pending.
GA Airport Security Procedures. Included in the packet is a copy of the Airport Security
Procedures which we have developed with the assistance of the Police Department, local pilots and input from AOPA
Airport Watch Program (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, a national organization). The procedures are recommendations
on procedures and possible future improvements. We have administratively adopted the document and are presenting
it for your information and support.
2. Engineering
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. Construction is proceeding nicely. All of the streets have
been graded, graveled and paved with the first lift of asphalt. Ditches have also been graded. WPS should be in
this week for installation of utilities
Asbestos Proposals. Working with the DNR on asbestos issues; it was determined that the
city should complete a survey of all city owned buildings for potential asbestos. We have received several proposals
and recommend accepting the proposal from Environmental Management Consulting, Inc. in the amount of $8995. EMC
will inspect each of the 68 city owned buildings to determine the likelihood of asbestos and enter the data into
the city database.
Bid #11-05 Goerke Park Concrete Stucco Project. This project is to concrete stucco four buildings, the Donald
Copps Municipal Pool bath house, two pump houses and the concession stand.
3. Streets and Other
Street Department Operations. The Street Department is in full swing for the summer operations.
With the Whitetail Trail project being completed, the crews are back to other activities such as pothole patching,
crack filling and shouldering.
