The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. The fuel remediation
work at the airport continues to operate in a "non-emergency" mode. The consultant has finalized the
final remediation plan and developed a guarantee for the final costs involved. Sentry, the city and Earth Tech
are in the process of working out the details; we will have an agreement worked out pretty soon.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. The card readers have
been installed. We are now waiting on the final wiring and phone hookups in the terminal.
Planned Airport Improvements. The FAA public comment
period is past. We still expect installation in 2006. The architect for the design of the airport terminal is working
on plans for some alternatives regarding the terminal improvements.
2. Engineering
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. The utility installation
has been completed. Topsoil and seeding are next on the list followed up with the final lift of asphalt.
Asbestos Inspections. The consultant will begin
inspection of city buildings this week.
Consideration of bids. #15-05: Goerke Park Concrete
Stucco Project; Parks Department project to stucco parks buildings. Recommend awarding to lowest qualified bidder
(bids to be opened on Thursday) #16-05: Goerke Park Baby Pool and Plunge Pool Plaster Project; Parks Department
project foe plastering. Recommend awarding to lowest qualified bidder. (bids to be opened on Thursday). Chemical
Room #9. Water Department project. Recommend awarding bid to lowest qualified bidder. (bids to be opened Thursday).
Consideration of quotes. Two Parks Tractors. Recommend
awarding the order to Service Motors in the amount of $44785.00 for two new Kubota tractors as recommended by the
fleet manager Dennis Laidlaw.
Bus Parking and Handicap Parking. Engineering and
Police Departments have evaluated the placement of bus parking stalls and handicap parking around Jefferson School
in conjunction with school officials. The aerial plan attached to the agenda packet indicates five bus parking
stalls on the east side of Wyatt Avenue between Jefferson Street and Oak Street and one additional stall on the
south side of Oak Street just west of Wayatt Avenue. It also indicates one bus parking stall on East Avenue which
is an existing stall that is to remain. Two handicap stalls are shown on East Avenue on the east side just south
of Jefferson Street. We recommend approval of the plan
Traffic Study TS-05-02. Engineering and Police
Dept. have evaluated traffic control in the SB 51 project area. The plan attached to the agenda indicate the removal
of two stop signs; one at Strongs Avenue SB at Division and one at Division SB at Monroe. A stop sign needs to
be added at Strongs Avenue NB at Park Street. Two way traffic needs to be established on Strongs between Park Street
and Division Street for the parking area. Also two handicap stalls need to be established on Strongs Avenue in
the 2100 block (north of Park Street on the west side of Strongs. We recommend approving the plan.
SB51 The South Business 51 project is open to traffic.
Street lighting and landscaping still need to be completed. Our Forestry section will be planting in October.
3. Streets
Street work. Other work continues as crews try
to do normal maintenance such as pot hole filling, catch basin repair, grass cutting, storm damage, garbage and
recycling, painting and sign work, pit operations, street sweeping, shouldering, banners, flags and barricades,
sewer maintenance and other related work.
4. Other Items.
Deer Culling. Requesting that the mayor be authorized
to sign agreement for deer culling for 2005.
