The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. Nothing new to report.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. The card readers have
been installed. We are still waiting on the final wiring and phone hookups in the terminal.
Planned Airport Improvements. The FAA public comment
period is past. We still expect installation in 2006. The architect for the design of the airport terminal is working
on plans for some alternatives regarding the terminal improvements. We have meet with the Bureau of Aeronautics
and are developing budget and funding alternatives. We are waiting for a response to correspondence requesting
additional funding for the airport terminal.
2. Engineering
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. The final lift of
asphalt has been completed. Street crews will be shouldering over the next few weeks. This will complete public
improvements to Whitetail Trails.
3. Streets
Street work. The curbside leaf and branch pickup
consumed considerable effort this past month. Other seasonal efforts include hauling salt/sand and setting up holiday
decorations. Other work continues as crews try to do normal maintenance such as pot hole filling, catch basin repair,
garbage and recycling, painting and sign work, pit operations, street sweeping, shouldering, banners, flags and
barricades, sewer maintenance and other related work.
4. Bids.
Goerke Park Concrete Stucco Project. This project
has been bid several times and has been over the budgeted amount each time. Bids are due on Thursday. We will have
a recommendation at the Board of Public Works meeting.
Goerke Park Baby Pool and Plunge Pool Replaster Project. We will make a recommendation at the Board of Public Works
meeting since the bids are due on Thursday as well.
5. Quotes
We have received a quotation on a pickup truck
for the Parks Department. The recommendation is to approve the quote from Scaffidi Motors in the amount of $18,474.00.
6. Traffic Studies
The Police Department and Engineering have reviewed
the following traffic studies and are recommending approval. Traffic studies and maps are included in the packets.
Standardize wording regarding all night parking
regulations as follows
All lots, between the hours of 2:30 am and 6:00
am of any day except Lot # 14 and Lots #21 and #22
Lot number 14 between the hours of 2:30 am and
8:45 am of any day.
Establish 14 permit stalls in Lot #21 on the former
corridor of Monroe Street.

stalls (contingent on snow removal agreements) on the former corridor of Monroe Street.
Permit 9 permit stalls in (contingent on snow removal
agreements) Lot #22 behind 1205 Second Street.
Stop signs in the Whitetail Trail Subdivision are
recommended.
A "no parking" designation is recommended
on the south side of Park Street between Division Street and Strongs Avenue.
Amend truck route ordinance. A separate study is
attached and a PowerPoint presentation will be given at the meeting.
Staff is recommending that the city council approve
a resolution requesting the Wisconsin Commissioner of Railroads to conduct a hearing to determine the necessity
of requiring a grade separated crossing at Hoover Road and the CNRR. A separate report is included in the packet.
7. Infrastructure information.
We have been working on improving information on
the condition of various components of the city's infrastructure. In particular, we have had our road tested and
evaluated and are working on using the associated pavement management software to develop cost effective pavement
improvement plans. We have also completed building evaluations for city owned buildings, including the potential
of asbestos, and have converted our recent sewer televised data to a database. A brief PowerPoint presentation
will be given to update the Board of Public Works on the progress of these undertakings.
