The following report is a highlight of current/anticipated
activities in the Department of Public Works. If there are any questions, please let me know.
1. Stevens Point Airport
Airport Fuel Remediation. Nothing new to report.
Airport Fuel Dispensers. The card readers have
been installed. We are still waiting on the final wiring and phone hookups in the terminal.
Planned Airport Improvements. The FAA public comment
period is past. We still expect installation in 2006. The architect for the design of the airport terminal is working
on plans for some alternatives regarding the terminal improvements. We have meet with the Bureau of Aeronautics
and are developing budget and funding alternatives. We are waiting for a response to correspondence requesting
additional funding for the airport terminal. We have requested that the Bureau consider a higher state contribution
to the project (80-20 instead of 50-50) and from discussions with them; it appears they may do so. We expect to
hear on the decision this week.
2. Engineering
Whitetail Trail Subdivision. Public improvements
to Whitetail Trails are complete.
Krembs Avenue Vacation. A request has been made
to vacate a portion of Krembs Avenue that was reserved for railroad siding access. Since the RR spur has been abandoned
we see no reason to retain this right of way. The recommendation is to vacate the east 20 feet from Coye Drive,
south to the corporate limits as shown on the attachment.
Division Street Vacation. There is a long narrow
taper section of right-of-way on the east side of Division Street south of Maria Drive a distance of 1168 feet.
The right of way is a remnant from a project re-aligning Division Street. It has been suggested that the city return
the property to the adjoining property owners. We recommend approving the vacation.
Highway 10/Brilowski Road Relocation Order. As
the final design phase of the project is nearing completion, there are minor changes in the right of way required
to complete the project. This is house-keeping and it is recommended that the revisions be approved.
3. Streets
Street work. Seasonal efforts include hauling salt/sand
and maintaining holiday decorations continue. Other work continues as crews try to do street and sewer maintenance
including pot hole filling, catch basin repair, garbage and recycling, sign work, pit operations, shouldering,
banners, flags and barricades, sewer maintenance and other related work.
4. Traffic Studies
The Police Department and Engineering have reviewed
the following traffic studies and are recommending approval. Traffic studies and maps are included in the packets.
Traffic Study #TS-05-09 Songbird Lane is a new
street connecting with Badger Avenue and Windy Drive. This is a business area and stop signs are appropriate in
these locations
5. Water Department
The Water Department has two items for this month's
agenda. The first item is consideration of award of contract for painting the Water Street water tower. The apparent
low bidder is TMI Coatings from St. Paul, MN with a bid of #363,900. The second is consideration of approval of
a proposal by Dixon Engineering for inspection services for the water tower painting in the amount of $16,477.
Director Halverson will be at the meeting to make a recommendation.
