Help Us Remove Invasive Plants

Iverson Park is a popular and historic park in Stevens Point that offers numerous activities and opportunities throughout the year, and also has a wide variety of plant and animal communities.

A couple of invasive plants that pose a threat to these plant and animal communities are glossy and common buckthorn and exotic honeysuckle.

These plants leaf out earlier and retain their leaves longer than native plants, thereby giving them a competitive edge. They are also prolific seeders, and there are no natural control measures to keep them in check.

An invasive plant removal is scheduled on
Saturday, September 23, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and volunteers are needed to help. Volunteers and staff will meet at the Boy Scout Lodge parking lot in Iverson Park (at the bottom of the hill near the Hillcrest Avenue entrance). Volunteers should bring a pair of work gloves.

If you are interested in helping, please call the Stevens Point Forestry department at (715) 346-1532.
