Statement on Stevens Point Mayor Gary Wescott
Longest Serving Mayor in City History Will Not
Seek Fourth Term in Office
STEVENS POINT— Rep. Louis Molepske, Jr. (D-Stevens
Point) issued the following statement today regarding the announcement of Stevens Point Mayor Gary Wescott's decision
to not seek a fourth term in office.
"Mayor Wescott is a man that personifies what
it means to be a public servant. He's open to thoughtful reflection on the duties, roles and responsibilities that
elected office requires, and he is committed to testing and measuring his values, ethics and actions in the daily
and often nightly service to the people and tradition that make up Stevens Point.
The news of his decision to not seek a fourth term as the Mayor of Stevens Point begins the closure of a significant
chapter in the Mayoral history of Stevens Point, but it is not finished, and I will hold off on the traditional
good-byes and best wishes until April, as new decisions still need to be made and many public hearings are scheduled
and need to be attended.
As Stevens Point and all of Portage County residents
reflect on the news and the eventual change in mayoral leadership, I want my constituents to know that I am committed
to making sure our next Mayoral Administration continues the respected representation that Mayor Wescott and his
administration exemplified over a twelve-year record of public service."
