Historic Preservation
The Historic Preservation division works to protect historic and cultural resources by assisting in the preservation, rehabilitation, and awareness of historic and cultural resources.

Ordinance & Guidelines
Historic preservation ordinances are in effect in the Downtown Historic District/Design Review District and the Clark Street Historic District to ensure new construction and remodeling projects are consistent with the historic character of the existing buildings. View Municipal Code Chapter 22 - Historic Preservation / Design Review and our Historic Preservation and Design Review Guidelines, which regulate new construction and remodeling projects within the City of Stevens Point.

Paint requests in Historic Districts must utilize colors within one of the adopted paint palletes:
Fan Decks and paint color samples are also available for viewing in the Community Development Office.

Local Landmarks
The Historic Preservation/Design Review Commission and the Common Council have identified certain properties as Local Landmarks. Local Landmark status requires that exterior alterations be reviewed and approved by the Historic Preservation/Design Review Commission prior to the work being initiated. Exterior work must be consistent with the historic character of the property.

To designate a landmark on the local register, please fill out the application for Local Landmark Designation thoroughly and submit to the Community Development Department. Local Landmark Application (pdf)
