Mayor Wescott said this is an incentive for the contractor to complete the project on time and ahead of schedule. The contractor would also be penalized $5,000 per day for each day the bridge is not completed per schedule. The bridge will remain open to traffic until March 1, 2000, with a completion date of approximately end of November 2000.

The total cost for the incentive/disincentive for completion of work is $200,000, with the State paying 50% and the City also paying 50%.

Ald. Aldinger asked if the $100,000 City's share for incentive/disincentive for work completion is in the budget? Comptroller-Treasurer Schlice said the funding will be included in the overall financing of the project.

The State will award the bid and the City will be represented in the bid opening.
