3. Extension of Current Outdoor Comprehensive
Park Plan
Schrader stated that our current Comprehensive Outdoor
Recreation Plan expired December 31, 2000. In order for the city to receive DNR grant funds, we need an adopted
Comprehensive Plan.
The city is currently beginning to work on an urban wide "Smart Growth Plan". When complete, this plan
will contain a section dealing with the park and recreational needs of not only the city, but the urban area.
Schrader recommended that we have the council pass a resolution extending our current plan one year. This will
give us time to see which direction the Smart Growth Committee is moving over the next couple of months. He’s checked
with the DNR and a resolution, by the council, asking for an extension is an accepted practice by their department.
Nealis stated that he would not support the extension of the plan because he didn’t agree with the Riverfront Plan,
that is part of this plan. That he wouldn’t support the plan until the Riverfront Plan is changed.
Motion was made by Phillips, seconded by Glodosky to approve the extension of the current Outdoor Comprehensive
Park Plan for one year.
Ayes; Glodosky, Molski, Aldinger, Phillips, Freckmann, McDonald, West, Somers, Okonek
Nays; Nealis
Motion carried.
4. Director's Report
- Winter Sports Area has been setting record numbers
of attendance; this was the first time
in 5-10 years that it has been open entirely for Christmas break.
- The Willett Arena has been experiencing some serious
ice build up due to it’s flat roof
which is causing leakage in the locker and meeting rooms. The snow has been removed
from the roof and heat tape applied.
5. Adjournment
Motion was made by Phillips, seconded by Aldinger
to adjourn meeting at 7:10 p.m. and proceed to tour Willett Arena.
Ayes; all, Nays; none. Motion carried.
6. Tour of Willett Arena
Commissioners toured Arena including offices, locker rooms and Zamboni area and found the tour to be very informative.
