Review, with possible action, Rural Fire
Chief Initiatives Fire Districting
Commissioner Meyer moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to support the use of a county resource agent to look
at a more unified delivery of EMS service, to include management.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to approve the minutes of the December 12, 2000 meeting.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Confirmation of Bills
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to accept the confirmation of the December 2000 bills.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Fire Chief’s Report
Fire Chief Barnes reported:
Operational and capital budgets were reviewed.
Monthly statistical reports were discussed.
Fire Chief Barnes distributed the following:
(a) a memo listing success stories for the year 2000
(b) a 2001 work plan
(c) staffing recommendations
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve the Fire Chief’s report for December 2000.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion Carried.
Donations - Stevens Point Police Department
Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to approve the following donations:
500 drug testing kits from St. Michael’s Foundation (approximate value of $2,500)
14 Ty Beanie Babies from Linda Rasmussen
11 stuffed animals from Philip and Karen Reddin
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Police Chief’s Report
Chief Carpenter reported:
The monthly statistical report was discussed.
The overtime, operational and capital budget reports were reviewed.
The Chief reported on three written commendations recently issued to officers on the Department.
The Chief distributed a letter written to Assistant Chancellor Greg Diemer summarizing possible solutions to pedestrian
traffic safety concerns in the 1900 block of Fourth Avenue.
Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Taylor, to approve the Police Chief’s report for December 2000.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Adjourn into Closed Session
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to adjourn into closed session.
Ayes: Commissioners Boylan, Fandre, Judy, Meyer and Taylor
Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Reconvene into Open Session
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to reconvene into open session.
Ayes: Commissioners Boylan, Fandre, Judy, Meyer and Taylor
Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to approve Dennis Zvara and Timothy Johnson to regular
status after the completion of their probationary period.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve Chief Carpenter to start the police officer
recruitment process to establish a new police officer eligibility list.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Commissioner Boylan moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve the performance evaluation of Interim Fire
Chief Koback as presented.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Commissioner Boylan moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve Interim Fire Chief Steve Koback’s vacation
utilization and compensation in accordance with city policy. Vacation days accumulated as Deputy Chief and Interim
Chief will be equalized. In regard to compensatory time, Interim Chief Koback is eligible to receive pay or time
off hours accumulated as deputy chief; he will be eligible for time off hours accumulated as Interim Chief.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
