Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2001 meeting.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
Confirmation of Bills
Will be reviewed and confirmed at the March 13, 2001 Commission meeting.
Fire Chief’s Report
4. Fire Chief Barnes reported:
Monthly statistical reports were discussed.
The Fire Department radio practices have been modified to decrease the amount of traffic that requires a response
from the dispatchers.
Deputy Chief Koback and Lorna Whalen will attend the NFA from March 5 - 17, 2001.
The Chief provided a 20 year projection of vehicle replacement needs to Bruce Schiefelbein.
The Fire Department is working on site plans for Jefferson School and Woodland Commons.
The Waterous Fire Pump training trailer will be in Stevens Point April 9th from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
The Chief provided a handout regarding the National Accreditation process and time line.
Replacement of ceiling tiles at the Fire Department is almost complete. The Chief commended employees at the Fire
Department for a job well done.
A significant amount of time has been spent cleaning and sorting equipment at the Fire Department. Any outdated
materials will be disposed of.
The Fire Department has placed an LDH hose found in storage onto various apparatus (A Platoon).
The Chief provided a statistical history on the periodic vacancy of Station 2.
Deputy Chief Koback will be returning to his position on shift in March.
The Department will provide an orientation for new police officer Ted Wanta on February 22nd.
Chief Barnes wrote a memo to the City Clerk opposing the temporary closing of Fourth Avenue on February 23rd.
The Fire Department will be assisting the Parks Department on May 29th with their annual placement of buoys.
The Chief explained the current state-wide debate on proposed Wisconsin Fire Code provisions.
The chief explained federal funding of Fire Bill.
Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to approve the Fire Chief’s report for January 2001.

Police Chief’s Report
Chief Carpenter reported:
The Chief briefed the Commission on a recent drug search warrant and resulting arrests at 1117 Prentice Street.
Drug Sensor Kits have been disseminated to the public and parochial school systems. School principals were asked
to convey test kit information to parents.
Ted Wanta begins employment as a police officer on February 19, 2001.
A police officer hiring time line was distributed.
The Chief informed the Commission of an event taking place on Friday nights at Bruiser’s called "boxing night."
The Chief and the owner of Bruiser’s met to discuss the legality of this event. Bruiser’s will cease sponsoring
the event as a state license is required and contestants must be medically certified prior to participation.
Commissioner Boylan moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve the Police Chief’s report for January 2001.

Adjourn into Closed Session
Commissioner Meyer moved, seconded by Commissioner Boylan, to adjourn into closed session pursuant to sec. 19.85(1)(e),
Wis. Stats. for a discussion regarding a fire department grievance.
Ayes: Commissioners Boylan, Fandre, Judy and Meyer.
Nays: None. Motion Carried.
