3. Renewal to Operate Bike
Rental from HWY. 66 Ski Lodge (Dennis Tlachac)
In April of 1999 the Commission approved this same
request. The Motion called for the Commission to review the operations after one year, however, Mr. Tlachac chose
not to run the operation during the summer of 1999. Schrader thought, that because of the time that has elapsed,
since the original motion, it would be a good idea to have the Commission look at the item again.
Okonek thought it was a great idea and a good service for bikers who may need repairs on the trail. He asked about
city liability and Schrader said Tlachac has liability insurance of one million dollars. One concern of Okonek's
was private enterprise using a public building.
Phillips asked if he would be renting kayaks or canoes and the answer was no; only bikes. Phillips was also concerned
about parking. He also felt a monthly rent ($400.00/mo.) would be better as the city would then be guaranteed revenue
of approximately $1,600.00. Schrader stated that there would not be a parking problem.
Freckmann felt that we do not know, at this point, how much revenue Tlachac will be taking in with this new business
and we should wait until the year is up and then review.
Curtis felt that we should not saddle Tlachac with this issue now and review in one year.
Motion was made by Curtis, seconded by Glodosky, that we approve this request for one year and then review, the
city receive 15% of the gross rental and merchandise sales and that he carry the appropriate liability insurance.
Ayes; West, Curtis, McDonald, Glodosky, Aldinger, Freckmann, Okonek
Nays; Phillips
Motion carried.
