Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the minutes of the May 14, 2002 meeting.

Confirmation of Bills

Commissioner Meyer moved, seconded by Commissioner Taylor, to approve the confirmation of the May 2002 bills.

Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.

Discussion, with possible action, regarding a request to approve out-of-state travel for Sgt. Mike Meronek to attend an M.O.C.I.C. (Mid-states Organized Crime Information Center) conference in Davenport, Iowa

Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve Sgt. Mike Meronek attending a MOCIC conference in Davenport, Iowa.

Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.

Police Chief's Report

Chief Carpenter reported:

• Monthly statistical reports were reviewed.
• Operational and capital budgets were reviewed.
• The Department received a federal grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $12,100.00 to be disbursed evenly over three years. The grant is for protective vests.
• Helen Lee and Chief Carpenter will be attending a WILEAG meeting in Madison on June 18, 2002. Helen will present a training plan regarding the accreditation process.
• Police Department Internet e-mail addresses will change effective June 13th .
• Chief level interviews are scheduled June 24, 2002 for four police officer applicants.

Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the Police Chief's report for May 2002.

Fire Chief's Report

Chief Barnes reported:

• Monthly statistical reports were discussed.
• Operational and capital budgets were reviewed.
• A short discussion was held regarding overtime issues.
• The entry level firefighter application process has begun.
• Chief Barnes is currently exploring some additional dual response areas.
• The Chief received a grievance regarding the city's policy requiring that employees pay for personal long distance telephone calls.
• St. Michael's Hospital is using the ground spirit ambulance from St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield to make some transfers.

Commissioner Fandre moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the Fire Chief's report for May 2002.

Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion Carried.

Discussion, with possible action, to fill a vacancy in the Fire Department - Firefighter/Paramedic

Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Fandre, to approve the Fire and/or Police Chief to make a conditional offer of employment up to five weeks prior to the start of a vacancy to a fully qualified candidate when a separation or retirement date has been confirmed in writing and is not subject to change and/or cancellation by the fireman or officer concerned.

Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried.
