2 - RESOLUTION DESIGNING
PUBLIC DEPOSITORY
C/T Schlice stated once a year we update the resolution and this year we need to do it because some banks have
changed their name.
Motion made by Ald. Stroik, seconded by Ald. Moore to approve the resolution designing public depository.
Ayes: All Nays: None Motion carried.
3 - CONSIDERATION OF BIDS
- PUBLICATIONS
C/T Schlice apologized for not getting this out sooner, but information was just received this afternoon from the
Stevens Point Journal. The Stevens Point Journal on the rate per column inch is actually low in a couple areas,
however, when you take the whole ad, they are actually high because you need more column inches with the Journal
because they have a narrower column than the Portage County Gazette. We did some comparisons and the majority of
what we do is the main news display ads. Based on ads that were sent to both of them asking them to use their current
proposal and figure out what this type of ad would cost, the main news display would be $213.89 for the Journal
and $175.70 for the Gazette. The second page is the form that has been used for calculations through the past few
years that we have been doing this and that basically takes the set number of column inches and applies the rate
to see how it comes out (we adjust the Journals inch total to compensate for column width). Bottom line recommendation
from both himself and the City Clerk would be to go with the Gazette on the proposal.
Motion made by Ald. Barr, seconded by Ald. Molski to approve the bid for publication proposal from Portage County
Gazette.
Ald. Stroik questioned why notices for meetings are sometimes seen in both the Journal and the Gazette.
C/T Schlice stated that the press is notified of any of our meetings and that is a public service that both papers
provide. He also stated this does not take the Stevens Point Journal out of it completely depending on timing of
the ads, a number of ads are still placed in the Journal during the year too.
Reid Rocheleau questioned if the Portage County Gazette is an official City newspaper and wondered if timing would
be a problem in going with the Gazette. He also asked about questions in circulation.
C/T Schlice stated that we did do some comparisons on circulation a couple of years ago and he believes they were
relatively close, they hit different areas.
Ald. Molski stated that the Stevens Point Journal circulation goes outside the City.
C/T Schlice commented the Gazette also goes outside the City, but stated we could find out by Monday on where the
circulation is.
Ald. Molski stated she believes this has been talked about before but we have to bid and we have to go with the
low bidder.
C/T Schlice stated that it has to be the most effective bidder.
Ald. Barr questioned if both papers were authorized.
C/T Schlice stated yes, they are both eligible, official publications.
Ald. Stroik questioned if we had run into any problems last year with going with the Gazette.
C/T Schlice stated that we have had them the last couple of years and there have not been any problems that he
is aware of.
Ayes: All Nays: None Motion carried.
4 - APPROVAL OF PAYMENT OF
CLAIMS
Motion made by Ald. Barr, seconded by Ald. Molski to approve the payment of claims in the amount of $704,427.67.
Ayes: All Nays: None Motion carried.
Adjournment at 6:53 P.M.
