3. Request to use Pfiffner
Building for Special Event, "Memory Walk" on September 24, 2005 (Alzheimer's Association)
Schrader stated that this event would also like
to setup prior to our adopted time one may enter a lodge and have a radio station provide music at the event. Both
of these requests we have honored in the past, if the event was open to the public and is run by a non-profit organization.
The early time would be for registration, some background music and event would be over by noon. We have approved
similar events in the past at the Pfiffner Building.
Motion was made by Sevenich, seconded by Curtis to approve the request to use the Pfiffner Building for Special
Event, "Memory Walk" on September 24, 2005 (Alzheimer's Association)
Ayes; all, Nays; none. Motion carried.
4. Director's Report
Special Events Funding for years 1989 - 2005 report
given to Commissioners. For 2005, Jazz Fest will be a 2 day event Sept. 3&4 held in Pfiffner park. The Copper
Fountain Festival will be held in Pfiffner Park on May 13 and the amount was reduced as event is not new. The Child's
Day will be a two year exhibit at the Portage County Historical Society. Walk Wisconsin is scheduled for June 4th
on the Green Circle. They have received 200 inquiries already and have a $20,000 budget and will be using designated
money for T-shirts, food stops, entertainment and pasta fest. It will be a non-competitive quarter, half and full
marathon. Info can be obtained at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Fly-in Open House has been an annual event
at the Stevens Point Airport. The funding for this event will need to be fazed out, in that the fund this for starting
up events, not maintaining them.
Markham asked how much money is in the budget and Schrader said $15,000.00. An application is filled out and the
committee meets once a year in December. Some of those funds are used for city activities such as Easter Egg Hunt
and Eat-to-the-Beat. Glodosky thought it would be nice to incorporate a bike route event for a couple of days around
Portage County.
Winter Sports Area only open for a couple days around Christmas; rain set in creating an ice hazard and lack of
snow prevented opening. Currently working on ice rinks.
Modern Signs acknowledged for the numerous signs
that have been donated.
5. Adjournment
There being no other business to come before the
Commission, motion was made by Curtis, seconded by Markham to adjourn at 6:48 p.m.
