13. Ratification of Ambulance
Service Agreement between the City of Stevens Point and Portage County.
Norm Myers Sr., 416 Union Street, said the Ambulance Agreement is a two tier system. Mr. Myers voiced his concerns
on the wording for the EMS Coordinator and the Amherst contract.
Mayor Wescott said almost all of Mr. Myers' comments are relevant to the negotiations at the County Board level.
The Mayor said this is an excellent contract for the taxpayers of Stevens Point. He is disappointed that the negotiation
of the ambulance service contract with Portage County became so political.
Ald. Barber moved, Ald. Hanson seconded, to approve the contract with the EMS and Portage County.
Ald. Moore asked what is the need for the Amherst information in the Ambulance Contract with the City.
City Attorney said there isn't really. The Attorney said there is nothing perfect about this contract but that
is the legality of it.

paramedics.
Ald. Moore is disappointed with the County for writing up such a poor document.

Ald. Sevenich learned that her decisions on the Council not only affect her district but the entire City as well

She noted that they are both much better today than 10 years ago. The alderperson thanked everyone that helped
her along the way. She said it was great meeting new neighbors and helping them.
21. Remarks from Mayor Wescott.
Ald. Moore thanked Mayor Wescott for his 12 years of dedicated public service. He said the citizens of Stevens
Point extend their profound thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Gary W. Wescott.
Mayor Wescott was impressed with the number of attendees at his open house earlier this evening. The Mayor said
one of the key goals 12 years ago was to position the City on solid financial ground and that has been accomplished.
He also added that the City has had a 70 percent increase in equalized value. The long term strategic planning
and the city's comprehensive plan were adopted. He said the Master Plan for the City was prepared. The Mayor said
a good paramedic service has always been of high importance to him. He stated a new conference center and revitalization
of an existing business were completed to attract tourists to Stevens Point. Mayor Wescott thanked the Council,
all City employees and Department Heads for their hard work. As the Mayor, he has had the blessing of 12 years
of supportive Common Councils. He is especially grateful for his wife, Mary and family. The Mayor would like to
think that 12 years ago we took a City and in 12 years built it into a community.
Senator Lassa thanked Mayor Wescott for his 12 years of public service. The Senator recognized Mayor Wescott for
his dedication to the citizens of Stevens Point by presenting him with a citation of commendation.
Mayor Wescott awarded Mayor Elect Halverson with his first gavel to use wisely and govern freely and fairly.
