1. Mission Statement: Facilitated
Discussion and Adoption of Mission Statement
Task Force Member Anna Haines facilitated initial discussion towards development of a mission statement for the
taskforce. Members were asked to take three minutes and write down phrases or sentences that they thought defined
what the task force is, does and represents. Those responses were noted, discussed and copied to another document,
included with the minutes. Members Bill Berry and Anna Haines will work together to produce a preliminary statement
from those responses, which will be sent to the Task Force Members before the next meeting.
2. Subcommittees: Review
of subcommittee schedule and updates on the meetings or discussions so far
Updates on subcommittee's schedules:
1. Waste and Recycling meets Oct. 18th, 5 p.m. at the City Hall Conference Room
2. Land Use & Development meets Oct. 23rd, 5 p.m. at the Portage County Library
3. Food meets Oct. 25th, 5 p.m. at Emy J's.
4. Transportation will meet the 3rd Monday of every month at 5 p.m. in the Prairie Room, Portage County Library.
5. Water & Wastewater meets Oct. 22nd, 5 p.m. at the Water Dept.
6. Parks & Tourism meets Oct. 25th, 12 p.m. at the Stevens Point Visitor Information Center
7. Civic Involvement meets Oct. 24th, 5 p.m. at the Portage County Library
8. Green Building & Energy meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 5 p.m. at the Rotary Club.
3. Kick-off Meeting: Discussion
of roles at the Eco-Municipality Kick-Off on October 30. Outline of evening and potential outcome.
Community Kick-Off Event will be Tuesday, October 30 at 6 p.m.. It will be held at Ben Franklin Jr. High. The Mayor
will greet the attendees and introduce the elected officials of Stevens Point. The idea of eco-municipality will
be introduced with Mary Rehwald as guest speaker. The public will then be able to provide feedback in the areas
of the subcommittees in group breakout sessions. Anna Haines will take the primary facilitator role in the session,
developing the overall element and process. Small groups will be facilitated with the help of volunteers, taskforce
members and subcommittee members. The small groups will brainstorm and perhaps regroup for a visioning session.
A large number community members are projected to participate.
4. First Issue Area Discussion:
Review initial thoughts and initiatives from Green Building & Energy subcommittee (and possibly Transportation
committee).
Both the Green Building & Energy subcommittee and the Transportation subcommittee have met since the last Eco-Municipality
Task Force meeting. Discussion included advice for subcommittee's meeting in the future, election of chairs the
committees and a short report on progress/due dates for committees.
Members also discussed the Eco-Municipality Task Forces role in Stevens Point's 150th Birthday celebration. A "top
10 things each household can do for the environment" idea was proposed.
