7. Police Chief's Report
Chief Morris reported:
On November 24, 2007 officers responded to a call
of a burglar alarm at Fill's Bar on Patch Street. After checking other businesses in the area Officer Raasoch observed
an individual running away from the bar area with what looked like a hammer in his hand. After a short chase Officer
Raasoch was able to apprehend Frank J. Stallings. Subsequent investigation determined that Fill's Bar did appear
to have been burglarized. Entry was via a broken door and upon further investigation it was apparent several video
poker machines had been entered and $1,200.00 was recovered from Mr. Stallings. At the Department that same evening
Officer Dean assisted with the incident. Officer Dean noted Mr. Sterlings' walk and clothing were similar to that
of a suspect from a series of burglaries she was involving in investigating in 2006. Detective Lepak began an extensive
search of Department records which involved other burglaries with similar patterns within the last couple years.
Mr. Stallings is believed to be responsible for burglarizing as many as 41 businesses in Stevens Point, Plover
and the rural Portage County area. The total value of property damaged and taken is in excess of $14,000.00.
Commissioner Taylor moved, seconded by Commissioner Meyer, to approve the Police Chief's report for November 2007.
Ayes, all; nays, none. Motion carried
