with the noted changes. Joe Kanter seconded. Ayes all; Nays none; Motion carried.
2. Bus shelter placement/costing
proposal.
Manager Lemke distributed an estimated costing plan
for placement of 15 bus shelters. The Commission reviewed the estimates and pictures of the various types of shelters.
The Commission felt that the "hip roof" type shelter with a green roof would be ideal for this community.
The estimated cost for the shelters is approximately $116,000. Installation, labor and concrete slabs are estimated
to cost $32,000. Stevens Point Transit was awarded a federal grant in the amount of $130,000 in 2005 for the shelter
project. Manager Lemke indicated additional funds could be requested if all proposals come in over $130,000 or
the project could be downsized. Manager Lemke stated the local share funds have not been allocated at this time.
Bob Woehr stated he would like to see shelters purchased that have the ability to be moved in the event of changes
in routes.
Hans Walther stated if a shelter is placed in another municipality it would be necessary to request funding assistance
from the respective municipality for the shelter.
Bob Woehr moved to direct the Transit Manager to continue moving forward with the shelter project, moving in the
direction of coordinating with the Comptroller Treasurer John Schlice and the appropriate city committees to ensure
local match funding for the project, and to secure additional federal funds if necessary and once all funding is
approved to move forward with a RFP. Hans Walther seconded. Ayes all; Nays none; Motion carried.
3. Trolley Bus discussion/recommendation.
Manager Lemke met with the Downtown Business Association
(DBA) to discuss the potential for partnering on a Trolley bus. The DBA expressed a great deal of interest in the
idea. It was determined that the DBA will discuss the topic with the Board and determine what level of commitment
they wish to make. The total cost of the Trolley is $25,000 with the local share being $5,000.
Hans Walther stated he feels this is a great opportunity to fulfill the Transportation Commission's goal to support
and enhance the downtown Main Street project.
Joe Kanter moved to proceed with the Trolley bus project and to continue to work on developing a partnership with
the DBA, if the trolley is mechanically sound and federal funding is secured. A maximum of $5,000 for the local
share will be funded either through the DBA, or a partnership of the DBA and SPT, or the SPT operational budget.
Amy Heart seconded. Ayes all; Nays none; Motion carried.
