Building Permits and Building Inspection
Building Permits are required for the following:
1. Construction of new residential, commercial,
and industrial buildings. (Site plans, building plans, elevations, and energy calculations are required at the
time of applying for a permit).
2. Re-roofing any building when you are doing more than 25% of the total roof area.
3. Re-siding any building.
4. Additions to any building. (Site plans showing the distances to the lot lines and any other buildings on the
lot are required at the time of applying for the permit).
5. Electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilating work.
6. Demolishing buildings.
7. Constructing a new garage or shed.
8. Moving buildings to another site.

Building inspectors review site plans and conduct inspections of all new construction and remodeling in the City. The inspectors are certified by the State of Wisconsin to review and approve new building plans up to 50,000 cubic feet.
The inspectors enforce State Building Codes and local zoning codes pertaining to such things as parking, setbacks and land use.
