Police Department
The Police Department recovers many bicycles each year,
and many go unclaimed. Often when bicycles are stolen, the thieves will abandon the bike when they are done with
it. We donate the unclaimed bicycles to Lincoln Hills, a maximum security juvenile detention center for boys in
Lincoln County, where the boys repair the bikes and return them to different communities.
There are things that you can do to prevent your bicycle from being taken. One of the most important things to
do is to lock your bike, even if you are only going to be away from it for a short period of time.
When you lock your bicycle, the lock should be placed around the frame of the bike and then to the rack. The bike
rack should be in a well lit area to help deter opportunity to a potential thief.
Bicycles can be returned to their owner easily with
identification on them such as a bicycle license. City of Stevens Point bicycle licenses are only $3.00 and are
non-expiring.
If you live in the City of Stevens Point and your bike is not licensed, you could receive a fine of $101.30.
Licenses can be obtained from the Stevens Point Police Department during normal Records Bureau hours.
