Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I pay my parking ticket?

There are six (6) parking meter box locations in the city. They are:

  • 1000 block of Main, in front of Jim Laabs Music
  • 900 block of Fremont near the hospital
  • 900 block of Isadore by the Fire Department
  • In the SPASH 1201 N. Point Dr.
  • 1000 block of Arlington, north side of Courthouse
  • 1900 block of Maria Drive, in front of George Stien Building, UWSP

Tickets can also be paid at:

  • The Police Department Records Bureau from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • The Dispatch Center, at the bottom of the ramp, during non-business hours.

Where is the Police Department located and what are your hours?

The Stevens Point Police Department is located in the Courthouse at 1515 Strongs Ave. The Records Bureau is located in the basement on the east side of the Courthouse and is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. For after hours service, Dispatch is located on the west side of the police ramp which is under the Courthouse.

Can you tell me if my license plates are expired?

You can inquire with the Department of Transportation located just north of the Target store 1001 Maple Bluff Rd., or call 1-800-924-3570.

Can you tell me if I have, or someone I know has, active warrants?

Yes. If you have information on the possible whereabouts of a wanted person, call our Court Officer at (715) 346-1521 or our Dispatch center at (715) 346-1500.

Do I need an appointment to have my fingerprints taken for employment purposes? Where do I go?

No appointment is necessary at the Records Bureau from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Our fee for fingerprinting is $20.00

Is someone I know in jail?

Please inquire to the Portage County Jail at (715) 346-1259.

Where do I pay fines or citations? Can I set up a payment plan?

Please pay your fines and citations at the Clerk of Courts, second floor in the Courthouse. Payment plan information must be requested through the Clerk of Courts.

Is overnight parking restricted on city streets?

Yes. Stevens Point has a City Ordinance 9.05(l) that restricts all parking between 2:30 AM and 6:00 AM on all city streets. If you require special permission to park overnight, please call our dispatch center at (715) 346-1500.

How do I get copies of police investigation or accident reports?

Open record requests must be made to the Records Department during normal hours of work by mail or in person.

What are the fees for fingerprinting, copes of reports, parking permits and bicycle licenses?

The following fees apply:

  • Fingerprinting $25 per request
  • Photocopies $ 1.25 per page
  • Parking Permits $25 per month
  • Bicycle Licenses $ 3 per license, non-expiring
