Sex Offender Community Notification
The Stevens Point Police Department releases the following
information pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform
the public of a sex offender's release in order to enhance public safety, awareness, and protection.
Community Notification is a written notification process whereby law enforcement officials can share detailed offender
information, provided by the Department of Corrections, with the community.
The overall purpose of Community Notification is to
highlight those cases that may pose a significant risk to the community in an effort to provide more detailed information
regarding the offender, his/her offense pattern, and specialized rules of supervision, as well as to provide a
means to initiate limited or expanded community notification.
Not all sex offenders released in our community will be classified under the Sex Offender Community Notification.
The individuals who appear in this notification have been convicted of a sex offense, have served the required
sentence, and have been released from prison. These individuals may or may not be under supervision from the Department
of Corrections. Because of their past criminal history, they have been placed in a classification level which raises
concerns.
For further information, please contact the Stevens Point Police Department at 346-1500 or visit the Department
of Corrections Sex
Offender Registry Web Site.
You can also identify where sex offenders may reside in your neighborhood by visiting FamilyWatchdog.us.
Citizen abuse
of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass registered sex offenders is illegal and violators will be
prosecuted.
