10-40 Form Filers: Making Tax payments December 31 is not a real estate tax payment date in Wisconsin (it is used only for IRS purposes). Postmarks do not count for December payments. Therefore, only payments physically in our office on or before December 31 of this year will be posted in this year. Although, according to the IRS Publication 17, Chapter
24, Page 160, a payment to be deducted for IRS purposes is based on “the date mailed or delivered and will constitute
date paid providing the check clears in a reasonable amount of time.” While the receipt may indicate a January
date, you may deduct the tax payment if the above rules are followed. We recommend you contact your tax advisor
with any questions as they relate to your income tax return.
