Lumosity's 100 Smartest Cities - 2013

Stevens Point Among Nation's Smartest Cities
Lumosity's study used data from more than 3 million people in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 75 who played brain-training games measuring performance across five areas: memory, processing speed, flexibility, attention, and problem solving.

Stevens Point ranked 38th in the Under 35 age group, 25th in the area of Flexibility, 4th in the Memory category, 14th in Problem Solving, and 40th in the Complete Overall Score Rankings.

An area's overall score was based on the median overall score for users in the geographic area. For the separate cognitive area lists, rankings were based on the median scaled score for each Core-based Statistical Area for each cognitive area.

Core-based Statistical Areas and Combined Statistical Areas were defined by the US Office of Management and Budget based on US Census data.

Lumosity says, "Economists and urban researchers tend to analyze the collective intelligence of cities based on socioeconomic variables like income and education levels. Lumosity published its first Smartest Cities rankings in 2012 based on our own database of users' performance on cognitive training exercises. The 2013 rankings are based on data from nearly three times as many people, with over 3 million users included in the study. We have also made some adjustments to our methods that we hope will improve the validity and reliability of our results."
