The Cultural Commons is a gift to the people of Portage County from our donors and supporters in the hope that as a community we continue to find common ground in our differences and strength in our multicultural heritage and outreach.
The Cultural Commons Committee is a collaboration of four organizations: The Rotary Club of Stevens Point, the Nicaragua Partner City, the Polish Sister City and the Russian Sister City Project.
The Rotary Club in 2017 marked its 100th anniversary in this community. Each of Stevens Point’s three sister/partner cities celebrates decades of working for peace through understanding and friendship with the people of Esteli, Nicaragua; Glucz, Poland; and Rostov Veliky, Russia.
We honor the native Menominee people who established communities along these banks of the Wisconsin River to collect wild rice, to hunt and fish and to produce maple syrup from nearby forests.
