Testing the Water for a Designated Dog Swim Area in the City

The City is considering proposing a designated dog swimming area near the northern boundary of Mead Park, in the former beach area. We are soliciting input to determine if there is enough interest to make a proposal to the Parks Commission and Council.

The proposal would have a small fenced area around the sandy swimming area, roughly where the outline shows in these aerial photos.

Since current ordinances require pets be on a leash in all other areas of our city (including parks), the swim area would be designated as an off-leash area like the current dog park.

This would not prevent humans from swimming, but would allow licensed and vaccinated pets to use the area. We would expect to adopt rules similar to those of other designated pet areas in central Wisconsin.

The designated dog swim area is only an idea at this point.
