The Wisconsin DOT is developing plans to complete work on the US 10/WIS 66 bridge over I-39 in city of Stevens Point and town of Hull. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2022.
The DOT has identified several needs on this section of US 10 and WIS 66: the existing concrete bridge deck and approaches at I-39 are deteriorating, pedestrian and bike accommodations on the bridge are narrow with safety concerns at the I-39 ramp intersections, and there is a high vehicular crash rate at the Country Club Drive intersection, northbound and southbound I- 39 ramp intersections and Maple Bluff Road/Old Highway 18 Road intersection.
To address the identified needs, the DOT proposes: replacing the deck and approaches on the bridge at I-39, widening the sidewalk and addressing safety concerns, extending the US 10 westbound auxiliary lane through the Maple Bluff Road intersection, shifting the left turn lanes on US 10 and WIS 66 to provide visibility for left-turning vehicles, and installing a traffic signal head over each lane at each intersection.
The bridge over I-39 will remain open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, including bicycles and wheelchairs, during all stages of construction. Turning movements from US 10/WIS 66 onto I-39 will be restricted to right turns. The I-39 northbound off-ramp to US 10 east will be closed during bridge construction.
