Berkshire - Stevens Point Senior Apartments Nearing Completion

General Capital, the developers of the Berkshire – Stevens Point Senior Apartments, announced that the project is nearing completion & will be opening by April 15, 2021. A ribbon cutting & socially distanced Grand Opening will be held on May 18th at 3PM.

The 88-unit project, located at 1443 Water Street in Downtown Stevens Point, broke ground in late December 2019. While the  COVID-19 pandemic caused minor delays during construction, General Capital was able to keep the project on track to deliver a Spring 2021 occupancy. 

“Everyone was affected by the pandemic, but thankfully we didn’t experience any significant issues related to job shutdowns or material shortages. There were some moments of uncertainty, but the team kept focused on the goal of getting this building ready for its residents by April 2021” reports Sig Strautmanis, a partner with General Capital. As contractors wrap up construction, General Capital’s ground team is focused on the final details of making the Berkshire special for its residents. Strautmanis said that his team is focused on unique interiors with local touches such as memorabilia from the Point Brewery, art from local artists and a signature canoe suspended from the lobby ceiling as a nod to the building’s location across from the Wisconsin River. There will be free Wi-Fi Internet for the residents in every common area, which has been a very popular amenity in recent years. “Our team has been having a lot of fun with this project. It will be a great place to live, with everything within walking distance and some great spaces for friendship and community,” Strautmanis said this week.

Apartments at the Berkshire – Stevens Point are professionally designed to meet the needs of today’s active seniors. The property is focused on our wonderful community and leasing has been incredibly strong according to Berkshire’s Property Manager, Jen Abel of the Oakbrook Corporation. “We have had a tremendous response to the Berkshire since opening our leasing office. We are just over 60% leased and no one has seen a unit yet! That is amazing for a senior property, especially considering the challenges we have faced over the last year,” Abel said during a recent conference call. With leasing as strong as this, Abel believes that all units will be spoken for by early summer. “There are still units available so if you’re interested in making the Berkshire your home, now is the time to do it. It will be sad to tell people that we’re full, but that is how quickly these units are moving.” Certain income restrictions apply to renting apartments at the Berkshire. Abel suggested those interested should call the leasing office for information regarding the age and income requirements for the property. “We are still leasing by appointment only due to COVID, to ensure appropriate cleaning and distancing can be observed between appointments.” The phone number for the leasing office is 715-344-1810.

A ribbon cutting and socially distanced Grand Opening celebration will be held on Tuesday, May 18th  at 3 PM.
