Initial appearances, motion hearings, and trials are now being held in-person, although all parties also have the option of appearing remotely.
Commencing June 1, 2021, the Court will resume in-person initial appearances, motion hearings and trials.
Initial appearances, motion hearings and trials will temporarily be held in the new Stevens Point City Conference Room. The courtroom currently has an 8-person capacity limit.
Capacity in the courtroom will be limited to 8 persons including court staff. Parties will be admitted to the court in groups consistent with occupancy limitations. Adequately spaced seating will be available outside the courtroom for those waiting to enter.
All parties will be given the option to appear at hearings remotely. Instructions for appearing remotely will be posted on the Municipal Court website and at the courtroom entrance. Parties with mandatory appearances will also receive instructions for appearing remotely by mail. Objections to parties and witnesses appearing remotely will be decided by the court on a case-by-case basis.
The court will continue to give all defendants the opportunity to enter not guilty pleas in writing in advance of the initial appearance date. Plea forms will be provided at the clerk’s office and outside the courtroom.
