13th Annual “Cops-n-bobbers®” is back and the program is set for Saturday, June 04, 2022
(Stevens Point, WI) – The Portage County Deputy Sheriffs Association, The Stevens Point Police Officer’s Association, Portage County Law Enforcement Agencies along with the Stevens Point Elks Lodge 641 will be hosting the “Cops and Bobbers®” program, which annually offers children and their parents the opportunity to enjoy a free day of fishing with local law enforcement officers. The program allows local children to have a positive experience with law enforcement officers and to learn a recreational pastime that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.
We are so thankful to the Stevens Point Elks Lodge and other sponsors again have agreed to generously help support our efforts to facilitate positive relationships with the community.
Portage County Deputy Eric Koepsell and Plover Police Officer Seth Pionke started “Cops and Bobbers” in 2008 with the hopes that they could share their passion for fishing with children and introduce them to a fun recreational activity.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022. The Stevens Point Elks Lodge has awarded a grant to assist with the expenses of this program, along with the assistance from its lodge members, who will work side by side with the officers from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department, Plover Police Department, UWSP Police and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in providing instruction, helping to cook the lunch provided, coordinating registrations, and in making sure the event runs smoothly and safely.
About the program:
Portage County Law Enforcement agencies, The Cops and Kids Foundation and the Stevens Point Elks Lodge #641 will be hosting the 13th annual Cops-n-Bobber® program at Bukolt Park, Stevens Point, WI. The program is a unique fishing experience where children ages 3-15 and their parents can enjoy a day of fishing with their local law enforcement officers. Building bonds between children and their parents is important, so each child will have a parent or guardian with him/her. The program gets kids “hooked” on fishing, not drugs or violence.
When the program is:
The event will be hosted on Saturday, June 04, 2022, which is free fishing weekend, so no fishing license is required. Bait and some equipment will be available for use, or children are welcome to bring their own equipment to use. The time for the catch and release tournament style program will be from 9:00A.M. to 11:00A.M., a provided lunch and prizes will follow from 11:00A.M. to 12:00P.M. There will be no cost to the children or their parents for the program. Again, this year we will have T-shirts for the children.
How to register:
To get an approximate number for food and T-shirts please register with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office by May 20, 2022. Please email Deputy Koepsell at firstname.lastname@example.org In the email please provide your name, contact information, number of attendees, if equipment is needed and shirt sizes for children (please indicate adult or youth sizes, S-M-L-XL-XXL).
