City Initiates Update to Comprehensive Plan

The Stevens Point Community & Economic Development Dept. has taken initial steps to update Stevens Point’s Comprehensive Plan. Online surveys, block parties & planning workshops, & City staff at events & businesses for feedback will begin on July 25.

The current comprehensive plan and all milestones during the update process will be made visible on the city’s website at

Stevens Point’s Comprehensive Plan, originally drafted in 2006 and required by state law, guides development decisions, community programs, and resources to ensure the city changes in a responsible manner. Stevens Point contracted a consulting firm to update the comprehensive plan in 2014, but due to turnover at the firm and inconsistent design, the update was never completed. The renewed update process will incorporate implementation objectives from the Stevens Point Strategic Plan, "People Are the Point," to effectively serve the needs of residents. People Are the Point is available at

“The City of Stevens Point is facing a pivotal moment and is about to decide – as a community – how it will serve current and future residents,” says Mayor Mike Wiza. “We, as your City staff, are prepared to transform resident input from this update process into direct action that will guild our community for years.”

A city-wide survey will be available July 25 - August 31. Residents are asked to complete the 10-minute survey that corresponds to their neighborhood, and all participants will be entered to win one of three $50 Portage County gift cards. The first block party and planning workshop, intended for the Goerke & Washington Elementary neighborhood area, is scheduled for September 18, 2022. Alternative feedback locations, methods, and times will be made available for those who cannot attend the date of the initial workshop. All surveys, planning workshops, neighborhood information, and updates will be made available at
