Stevens Point Fire Department Awarded Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Flex Grant Award

To combat financial hardships on EMS departments, the Wis. Dept. of Health Services invited EMS Providers to apply for $12 million in EMS Flex Grant funding. The Stevens Point Fire Dept. was awarded $30,750 to purchase a Rapid Deploy Water Rescue Craft.

The EMS Flex Grant funding comes from the American Rescue Plan Act–Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.

“The Stevens Point Fire Department is proud to offer Rapid Deploy Water Rescue Craft services to the people of Portage County,” said Assistant Chief of EMS Joseph Gemza. “With the use of this watercraft, we hope to continue the tradition of providing top tier rescue services to those who need it most.”

The Stevens Point Fire Department is comprised of over 40 highly dedicated and skilled men and women providing emergency medical and fire services and public education to a coverage area spanning over 800 square miles. During 2021, the Stevens Point Fire Department responded to almost 4,700 service calls, the majority being cared for by our five Advanced Life Support/Paramedic Units.
